Singapore impressions

UTRECHT The word ‘japon’ comes from Japanese. ‘Sauna’ was borrowed from the Finnish. And ‘bazaar’ is of Persian origin. The Van Dale Groot Leenwoordenboek, published this week, shows that for centuries the Dutch language has practiced a generous ‘admissions policy’ for foreign words.
